Women of Steel Leadership Training Information

The Women of Steel Leadership Course is about leadership and commitment, and its objective is to develop strong, dedicated leadership among women in our Union. Leadership can take on many forms - elected or appointed, service on local union committees, participation on organizing campaigns or political and legislative actions, or just being a good local union member that understands that unions are vital to the survival of the middle class.
The purpose of the course is also to strengthen our union’s commitment to a diverse and inclusive labor movement, one which truly represents the interest of all workers and which admits all workers to leadership. The course is designed to assist union sisters in overcoming the barriers (sometimes self-inflicted) that limit their full participation in our society—and in the labor movement itself.
Each USW district offers this training at a minimum of once a year. All classes are limited to around 20 participants in order to allow maximum participation in a comfortable setting. Those attending must have a high level of commitment and are required to attend every session in order to receive their certificate of completion – no exceptions.
