Convention Coverage

Travel and Weather Information

For travel, given the distance, we would expect nearly all delegates to fly to the Convention. Once the names of the sponsored delegate or delegates, and their credential or credentials, have been sent to the International Secretary-Treasurer, Local Unions are expected to make all travel arrangements on behalf of their delegate or delegates.

We strongly encourage the use of Professional Travel to book air travel in order to obtain the benefit of a discount negotiated by the USW, but this is your Local Union's decision. Please advise the agent that you are attending the USW Convention in order to obtain this discount when you book. Professional Travel can be contacted at 1-877-499-1149, select option #1, between the hours of 8:00 am to 9:00 pm EST, Monday through Friday.

Please note: As of July 27, 2011, the USW convention hotel room rate at the MGM Grand has expired and reservations made hereafter are subject to normal hotel rates as set by the MGM  Grand. Please call 1-800-880-0880 to make reservations.

Be Prepared: Las Vegas Weather in August

When August arrives in Las Vegas, summer by definition may be winding down, but the city still continues to pump out brutally hot temperatures. Las Vegas is a desert climate and weather can vary. Do not be surprised if the temperature during your visit is up to 10 degrees higher or lower than the average. The one blessing is the average humidity in the region is only about 22 percent.

If plan to venture outside of the convention hotel, remember to bring sunscreen, plenty of water and some type of headwear.

Below is an indication of temperatures and weather for Las Vegas from August 5 – 14.
