Welcome to District 12 Orgainizing
District 12 has a very proud history of organizing new members into our Union.
Only through collective bargaining can employees improve the working situations for these people, not only on a daily basis but also in what they can provide for the families and their families futures. The information we are providing we think will be helpful in making the career decision about forming a Union in your work place.
This is not an easy undertaking but one that will improve your work environment for not only you but your co-workers as well. Collective bargaining agreements can cover anything from Wages, Benefits, Hour’s of Work, Vacations, Holidays, Retirements, Safety Conditions and many other things that are important to working men and women during their working life.
Nationwide, a recent survey shows more than 57 million U.S. workers say they would form a union tomorrow to improve their lives, gain health care, ensure job security and have a say in their daily working conditions. And 73% of people say that laws protecting the freedom to join unions are important.
In the United States workers like you have the right to make their own choices about forming a union, without interference from management and certainly without company interference. (Per the National Labor Relations act) When employers violate the right of workers to form a union, everyone suffers. Our basic constitutional freedoms are compromised.
Wages fall, race and gender pay gaps widen and workplace discrimination increases and job safety standards disappear. Unions are the best tool working men and women have for fighting poverty and bringing social justice to not just the work place to society as well.
The Steelworkers is the largest Industrial Union in North America with over 850,000 members and would welcome you and your co-workers to join with us in improving the working conditions at your facility for all workers to enjoy.
