Welcome to the District 13 Organizing Web Site
Through collective bargaining, employees can improve the working situations for themselves and their families. Collective bargaining agreements (CBA) can cover anything from Wages, Benefits, Hour’s of Work, Vacations, Holidays, Retirements, Safety Conditions and many other things that are important to working men and women.
Nationwide, a recent survey shows more than 57 million U.S. workers say they would form a union tomorrow to improve their lives, gain health care, ensure job security and have a say in their daily working conditions. And 73% of people say that laws protecting the freedom to join unions are important.
In the United States workers have the right to make their own choices about forming a union, without interference from management and certainly without company interference. (Per the National Labor Relations act) When employers violate the right of workers to form a union, everyone suffers. Our basic constitutional freedoms are compromised.
The United Steelworkers (USW) is the largest industrial union in North America with over 850,000 members and would welcome you and your co-workers to join with us in improving the working conditions at your facility.
The USW helps workers level the playing field between worker and management through established problem-solving procedures. This structured, above board approach to grievance resolution helps eliminate backlash and retaliation. If nothing else it makes sure your workplace problems get the desired attention, rather than being cast aside. We believe your at-work problems should be handled in a responsible manner and not be used as leverage against you and your fellow workers.
