USW Praises Senate Support for Strong Buy America Requirements in Water Resources Development Act
The United Steelworkers (USW) lauded today’s overwhelming support in the Senate, by a 60-36 margin, to pass the Merkley-Brown amendment (#866) to the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA). This will ensure that federal taxpayer dollars used to fund water infrastructure projects under WRDA will be spent on goods and materials made here in America by American workers.

USW Study Warns Public about Dangers of Hydrofluoric Acid Use in Refinery Alkylation Process to Produce Clean-Burning Gasoline
A United Steelworkers (USW) study released today-"A Risk Too Great, Hydrofluoric Acid in U.S. Refineries"-warns that refiners that use hydrofluoric acid (HF) in their alkylation process to make clean-burning gasoline do not have adequate safety systems in place and are not prepared to handle a release.

Strength and Solidarity Become the Focus of Local 1441/1441-01 WOS
On November 15, members of Women of Steel (WOS) from United Steelworkers (USW) Locals 1441/1441-01 in Selma, AL, gathered to discuss plans future events. One of their initial events scheduled for December 4 is a goodwill project visiting a local nursing home to deliver gifts to the residents. The 70 member group hopes to expand this project next year to other nursing homes in Selma.

USW Praises Clear Channel Decision to Remove Signs Intimidating Voters
The United Steelworkers (USW) today said Clear Channel Communications made the right decision in removing anonymous billboards designed to intimidate voters and suppress turnout. The billboards, which warned of prison terms and fines for anyone engaged in voter fraud, began to appear in early October.

Titan Tire buys the former Goodyear plant in Union City, Tennessee
An Illinois-based maker of tires for agriculture and industry has bought Goodyear's Union City plant four months after its closing idled 1,800 workers. Goodyear and Titan Tire, subsidiary of Titan International, on Friday confirmed the sale, and Titan said it would provide more detail next week.

Local 1155 Looking Forward to More Jobs with Plant Expansion
United Steelworkers (USW) Local 1155 is pleased with the recent announcement of a $36.6 million investment in the Bridgestone tire plant in Warren, Tenn.
