• April 16, 2013 USW Study Warns Public about Dangers of Hydrofluoric Acid Use in Refinery Alkylation Process to Produce Clean-Burning Gasoline A United Steelworkers (USW) study released today-"A Risk Too Great, Hydrofluoric Acid in U.S. Refineries"-warns that refiners that use hydrofluoric acid (HF) in their alkylation process to make clean-burning gasoline do not have adequate safety systems in place and are not prepared to handle a release.

• December 03, 2012 Strength and Solidarity Become the Focus of Local 1441/1441-01 WOS On November 15, members of Women of Steel (WOS) from United Steelworkers (USW) Locals 1441/1441-01 in Selma, AL, gathered to discuss plans future events. One of their initial events scheduled for December 4 is a goodwill project visiting a local nursing home to deliver gifts to the residents. The 70 member group hopes to expand this project next year to other nursing homes in Selma.
• December 03, 2012 USW Local 1055L WOS Thanksgiving Dinner This year United Steelworkers (USW) Local 1055L Women of Steel (WOS) prepared Thanksgiving dinner for people in our community. Brothers and Sisters also donated coats to give away. People left with a full stomach, a coat to help them keep warm this winter and a smile on their face. Under the banner “Money Out, Voters In,” the organizations issued a joint statement pledging to fight corporate money in politics and to support the rights of all voters.

• October 22, 2012 USW Praises Clear Channel Decision to Remove Signs Intimidating Voters The United Steelworkers (USW) today said Clear Channel Communications made the right decision in removing anonymous billboards designed to intimidate voters and suppress turnout. The billboards, which warned of prison terms and fines for anyone engaged in voter fraud, began to appear in early October.
• October 19, 2012 USW Ratifies Temple-Inland Integration Agreement with IP The United Steelworkers (USW) today said that workers ratified an agreement this week to integrate about 1,400 workers at 18 former Temple Inland box plants into the union’s master economic agreement with International Paper (IP), with 90% of the ballots cast in favor of the contract.

• November 14, 2011 Titan Tire buys the former Goodyear plant in Union City, Tennessee An Illinois-based maker of tires for agriculture and industry has bought Goodyear's Union City plant four months after its closing idled 1,800 workers. Goodyear and Titan Tire, subsidiary of Titan International, on Friday confirmed the sale, and Titan said it would provide more detail next week.

• September 16, 2011 USW Members at Anchor Glass in Jacksonville, FL on Strike The contract for 8 members at United Steelworker (USW) Local Union 38 members in Jacksonville, FL expired September 1, 2011. About 140 union members at seven other Anchor Glass locations nationwide joined Local 38 when they walked out on strike.
