USW member Grady Olson of Local 2-469 was seriously injured when his right arm was caught between a roll of paper and a powered "paster roll" in a paper coating machine at the Appleton Papers facility in Appleton, Wis.
Brother Olson is recovering from last Friday’s (July 11, 2008) accident at Appleton Medical Center’s intensive care unit. He has had two surgeries and doctors expect a few more in an effort to save his arm. He is in critical but stable condition.
So far this year, 32 USW members have been killed in workplace accidents. ERT has also responded to 14 serious injury incidents, giving the USW a total of 46 ERT cases since January 1.
