U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi challenged about 1,000 delegates at the United Steelworkers (USW) International Women of Steel Conference to play a role in influencing the outcome of the midterm elections

“We must win, and we will win, this election,” the Speaker said during her address Monday at the David Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh. She emphasized a number of election issues including:

• opposing GOP attempts to privatize Social Security
• GOP use of tens of millions of dollars from secret sources, possibly including foreig corporations
• promoting the job creation from the stimulus bill
• promoting the victory for working men and women with the passing of health care reform

The USW paid tribute to Speaker Pelosi by making her an honorary “Woman of Steel.”
