In June 2009, SP KAHUTINDO Plant Level Union was registered as a union with 434 members working at San Yu Frame Moulding Industries in Semarang, Indonesia. Seven months later union members held a spontaneous wildcat strike in the workplace, due to the discrimination of wage payments. The company systematically discriminated and intimidated union officials and members by paying the daily workers immediately.
The Injustice Continues
In late December last year, Nurimah, the chairperson of SP KAHUTINDO Plant Level Union PT was arrested by police on charges of physical assault, claimed to be done in 2006. The report was suspiciously filed right in the midst of union negotiations with the management of PT. Written testimony submitted during the court hearing January 3, 2011 clearly shows that the management of PT has intentionally fabricated the charges with the intention of intimidating the union and halting the negotiation process.
