International Secretary Treasurer Stan Johnson talked with Leslie Marshall about the various ways Steelworkers help people after natural disasters; with charities such as United Way, Habitat for Humanity, Juvenile Diabetes and assist with blood drives and food drives.
“It is amazing that there is a movement afoot to try to strip away the very core of safety and health regulations in the U.S.,” said Johnson, “Our union has participated in helping to form those laws.”
He went to talk about how the Steelworkers warns and educates the public about health, safety and environmental concerns. A good example is the “Toxic Toys Campaign” which was initiated by the USW and brought attention to toxic toys entering America.
“We have a vested interest to make sure our that environment remains safe,” said Johnson.
