USW International president Leo W. Gerard talks with Leslie Mashall about the rising anger of people over the devisive debates on raising the debt ceiling.
"I am furious over the whole process," said Gerard, "We're having the wrong debate."
The USW president pointed out that 80 percent of the debt was deliberately incurred by the Bush administration and that people forget that the Wall Street bailout happened under the Republican regime.
"The crisis is a lack of jobs and a lack of demand," said Gerard.
Gerard and Marshall discussed how some working men and women are supporting policies that subsidize millionaires and billionaires as their own meager benefits continue to get stripped away.
The unemployment rate was roughly 4 percent when Bush took office and President Obama inherited an 8 percent rate.
“The debate we should be having in America right now,” said Gerard, “is how do we create more demand in the economy so that employers will get people back to work?
