The 850,000 members of the United Steelworkers in the United States and Canada salute the National Union of Mine, Metal, Steel, and Allied Workers of the Mexican Republic, their democratically elected General Secretary, Napoleón Gómez Urrutia, and especially the members of Section 65 in Cananea, Sonora; Section 17 in Taxco, Guerrero; and Section 201, Sombrerete, Zacatecas, on the fourth anniversary of their strike against Grupo México.
For four years, the workers at these three Grupo México mines have maintained their strike, with the support of their Mexican brothers and sisters and the solidarity of unions around the world. Their demands are just: health and safety on the job, decent wages, and recognition of their democratically elected union free from employer interference.
