Leslie Marshall, from the The Leslie Marshall Show, talks with United Steelworkers (USW) President Leo W. Gerard about taxes, taxation and class warfare.
As they talked about the recent proposal by the President to get the economy moving again, Leslie asked if the proper question has been posed to the American people.
“All of us need to set the record straight,” replied Gerard, “The Republicans keep saying we can’t tax the job creators. If tax cuts created jobs, when George Bush left office, we should have had full employment.”
They talked about infrastructure, jobs and wages and who should pay.
“Workers have had flat or stagnant incomes over the last 30 years,” commented Gerard, “while coupon-clippers on Wall Street have created 400 families that have more wealth than 155 million people at the bottom of the economic chain.
Leslie spoke about the Presidents’ plan which is estimated to reduce the deficit by 3 billion dollars but Republicans seemed hell-bent on not taking care of Americans and the people that elected them because they are tied to tax pledges.
“The President is also cutting taxes of the small and medium businesses and these guys (the Republicans) are always running their mouth that they’re for small business,” said Gerard. “Small business and rich people are the job creators. So the President has a plan to make it easier on the small businessman and they are against that. He is showing the hypocrisy of what this is all about.”
