Last night on MSNBC’s the “Ed Show,” host Ed Schultz and United Steelworkers International President Leo W. Gerard discussed Rick Santorum’s “0-0-0” plan to create jobs and spur the economy.
Santorum’s plan was to drop all corporate taxes for manufacturing companies, drop all taxes on any repatriated profits companies made from overseas and to abolish all manufacturing regulations.
As Leo and Ed discussed, Santorum’s plan was only a free lunch plan for corporations. It would allow companies to avoid regulations, do nothing for consumers and the middle class, do nothing to prevent companies from shipping more jobs offshore and would not bring in any tax revenue to help the country.
They talked about the huge tax breaks many companies have today and this plan would do nothing to inspire companies to hire workers in this country. As Gerard pointed out, “This is nothing more that smoke and mirrors. This is nothing more than hiding the pea.”
The problem is not regulations, it is consumer demand and getting money back into the hands of the middle class so they can buy the products they make.
Gerard said, “We have a Republican Party at all levels prepared to have millions of people out of work so that they can have one man’s job.”
