Progressive talk show host Leslie Marshall spoke with United Steelworkers (USW) President Leo W. Gerard on the American economy, fair taxation, working moms and Mitt Romney.
Marshall mentioned how Gerard's recent article, "Titanic Tax Shirking by Those in First Class," ties in with the 100th anniversary of the Titanic and the American economy - both are sinking. They discussed how Republicans are defending the rich and super rich.
"In reality, the American economy is the Titanic heading for an iceberg," said Gerard, "and everybody in first class is still partying."
They discussed the need for a taxation system where everyone pays their fair share and helps to build the infrastructure of this country. The conversation rolled around to the Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and how he pays less tax than a hotel maid, a secretary and the person who drives his car.
"He couldn't relate to a working person," said Gerard. "He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He was born on third base and thinks he hit a triple."
