USW oil workers joined members of Unite the Union in London on Thursday for a rally outside of the International Petroleum Week (IPW) dinner.
The protest was part of a weeklong series of solidarity events the USW delegation held with European allies to build international support for the USW’s unfair labor practice strike at 11 U.S. oil refineries. On Wednesday, the group picketed and leafleted outside of Royal Dutch Shell and LyondellBasell facilities in the Netherlands.
Members of the environmental group Divest London also joined in Thursday’s protest.
IPW is an annual gathering of leaders in the global oil and gas industry. Thursday’s event included an address by Shell CEO Ben van Beurden, whose company is leading negotiations with the USW on behalf of the oil industry.
