On Sunday, April 4 2016, Women of Steel from Local Union 1123 organized a town hall-style speaking event that was hosted by the Golden Lodge. The program began with an opening monologue of a Huffington Post Video titled, 48 Things Women Hear In A Lifetime (That Men Just Don’t) – YouTube. Carrie Holland gave a very warm welcoming speech to those in attendance and introduced the moderator, Katrina Fitzgerald.
The panel of speakers was comprised of women from different career paths, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation and social status. The diversity of the panel, along with their willingness to share their experiences and struggles in a very raw and open way not only allowed the audience to easily connect with them, but also helped the audience see they are not alone in their struggles.
Those in attendance were union sisters, and family and friends of USW Locals 1123, 9187, 460, 801, and 843L. Apryl Marteney and a retired USW Local 1123 member, brother Dave, severed pizza at the conclusion of the event.
Panel Speakers were Teresa Hartley, Kathy Boyd, Alana Gustafson, and Stacie Roth.
