USW Resumes Talks with Sherwin

The USW met with Sherwin Alumina representatives this week in an effort to reach a contract settlement.

While we are well aware of the difficult state of our industry, we do not believe that it should be used as an excuse to keep hundreds of hard-working people unnecessarily locked out of their jobs for more than a year.

Each time the two sides have met, the company has continued to drastically reduce its proposals, and Sherwin indicated this week that would be the case with any forthcoming proposals. The USW has continued to make counter proposals and to bargain in good faith, but it is difficult to reach an agreement when the goal line keeps getting moved backwards.

We look forward to continuing our negotiations with the company, and we remain committed to reaching an agreement that is fair to both sides.
