March 24, 2015 a member of USW Local 1257 was seriously injured while working at the RockTenn converter south plant in Sioux City, Iowa. Due to the lack of railcars and other shipping means, scrap bales continued to accumulate in an open storage area causing them to be stacked in unsecured tiers. A powered industrial truck was operating in the area when several scrap bales fell from where they were stacked. Two of the scrap bales weighing approximately 900 pounds each, fell on the victim causing fractures to his left leg and crushing his right ankle and foot. The complete details are unknown at this time. Robert Brown, Emergency Response Team District 11 Coordinator will assist the family and Steve Sallman, Health Safety and Environment Staff will assist the local with the investigation.
