On December 16, 2014 during the two shift breaks, the volunteers, from USW Local 1688 in District 10, stood at gate 2 to collect nonperishable food and financial contributions. The collection resulted in receipt of 964 pounds of food as well as cash and checks totaling $2,285. After delivering the gift to the Food Bank, the committee distributed a thank you flyer to participants at the following day’s shift breaks.
Committee members Jeff Yeingst, Jeff Lebo, and Ray Fernandez had previously sent out advance requests to steelworkers at the Arcelor plant to join this volunteer community service. Yeingst’s daughter, Skylar, designed and printed flyer invitations.
