District 1 Women of Steel Scholarship Committee Announces Winners

United Steelworkers District 1 Women of Steel Scholarship Committee met Friday, June 20, 2014, to select the 2014 recipients of academic and technical scholarships.  Forty-one applications were reviewed by the Committee before they randomly selected winners from the eligible applicants. 

The winners of the two $2,000 Academic Scholarships are Hannah Coon, daughter of David Coon a member of Local 7334, who plans to attend Ohio State University Mansfield Campus. And Casey Kinsey, son of Dusty Kinsey a member of 2737, who will attend Ohio University.

A $1,500 Technical Scholarship was awarded to Zoe Shepherd, daughter of Raymond Shepherd, member of Local 1-460.  Zoe plans to attend Stark State University.

The Committee awarded an Essay Scholarship to Jason Hug, son of Dennis Hug a member of Local 890L. Jason will attend West Point Academy.

The Committee members are Karen Halladay, Vickie Stage, Louise Zimmerman and Michele Erwin.
