Crown Holdings Fail to Address Questions at Shareholder Meeting

Over 100 union workers from Crown’s Holdings Toronto plant and their supporters rallied at the company’s shareholder meeting at its Philadelphia headquarters. The workers have been on strike for about eight months at one of the company’s top producers of soup and beverage cans.

Crown has demanded major concessions from employees, including a two-tier wage plan that would permanently cut wages for new hires by up to 42%, despite paying its CEO John Conway up to $14 million in compensation ($7,000 per hour).

United Steelworker spokesman Joe Drexler said “We want to negotiate a fair and equitable resolution of this dispute. The ball is clearly in Crown’s court.”

The workers were allowed to attend the meeting but were disappointed when they were not allowed to raise concerns. Questions were allowed by way of writing and when still went unanswered, the union members verbally protested in front of company shareholders.
