A Supreme Court Decision that Opens the Door for States to Conduct Voter Suppression

Progressive talk show host Leslie Marshall recently spoke with United Steelworkers (USW) International President Leo W. Gerard about how the Supreme Court voted down a major section of the Voting Rights Act and the implications caused by their decision.

They discussed how this vote discriminates against minorities and will hamper their right to vote. In some states, like North Carolina, people are rallying and standing up to the legislation that has placed extra burdens on not only minorities but the elderly, students and working men and women.

“The whole political system has gone in reverse … this is not what America stands for,” said Gerard.
