Michael Weise serves as the Mining and Energy Union’s National Organising and Training Director, a position that reflects his commitment to the Union movement and the advancement of workers’ rights.

Mick has 17 years of experience as an underground coal miner and a unique understanding of the challenges and demands faced by our MEU Members on the ground.

His previous role as a long-term Union Delegate, which he held for 15 years—advocating for workers’ interests, ensuring that their voices were heard and negotiating favourable conditions on their behalf.

As head of the Union’s National Organising Team, Mick plays a critical role in strategising and implementing initiatives to boost union membership and enhance workers’ engagement within our Districts.

Mick is also responsible for the Union’s Delegate Training program, emphasising the importance of equipping representatives with skills and knowledge to support their coworkers in navigating the complexities at work on site. His commitment to training ensures that delegates are well prepared to tackle workplace challenges and advocate for their rights.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Michael is also known as an “all-round good bloke.”
