Sergio Mauricio Uñac, current Argentine national senator representing the province of San Juan, was born on 15th February, 1970. He got his degree as a Lawyer and Attorney granted by the School of Law and Social Sciences of the National University of Cordoba in 1994. There, he was also an active participant of the Peronist University Youth (JP).
In 1995 he began his public activity as General Counsel of the Municipality of Pocito, under his father’s administration. Joaquin Uñac was Mayor of the Municipality of Pocito in 1995-1999 and 1999-2003.
In October 2003, he was elected Mayor of Pocito Department, achieving re-election in 2007 supporter whit 79 % of the popular vote (2003-2007 and 2007-2011).
On December 10, 2011 he took office as Deputy Governor and Ex officio President of the Lower Chamber of San Juan.
In January 2015 he was elected unanimously as president of the Ibero American Municipal Union (UIM), an international organization that brings together politicians, officials and heads of local governments in more than 30 countries in America and Europe.
In the Open, Concurrent and Compulsory Primary Elections of 2015 (PASO 2015) he became the winner of the internal FPV, and on October 25 the same year he was proclaimed Governor by San Juan’s citizens who supported him with 53.57 % of the vote.
In October 2019, he was reelected with 55,8 percent popular support.
In 2023 he was elected senator to represent his province in the national congress.
