Where do you work and what do you do?

I work at Rivercrest Care Centre in long-term care, where I care for the elderly.

Role in the union:

I am a member-at-large on my local union’s executive board.

Is this your first convention?

This is my very first convention, and I am already loving it!

What inspired you to attend this year (or for the first time):

I was elected to attend convention by my membership, and I just can’t refuse an opportunity from the union. I truly love working for the union and I am passionate about everything the union stands for.

What does the theme “All in” mean to you?

I am “all in” and fully committed! I am proud to stand with my brothers and sisters, supporting them through shared issues and problems, just as I would want them to stand by me.

What issues will be important when your local contract expires?

I am concerned about the resident-to-worker ratios in my workplace. It’s a big issue for me, and I want it addressed in the next contract negotiations. The imbalance is unfair to both the workers and residents as workers become burnt out.

What makes you proud to be in a union?

I am proud to be a Steelworker because my union empowers me. Through the classes I attend, I gain valuable knowledge that I share with my colleagues, which makes me feel empowered.
