Where do you work and what do you do?

I work at Blue Bird in Fort Valley, Georgia. I prep inside of the windows before the bus goes in to get sprayed. My job is to keep the paint from getting on the inside.

Your local is relatively new – how have things been going since you joined the USW last spring?

Things are going as planned. Everything is a work in progress. We just look forward to growing along with the company and implementing USW style, things like the Tony Mazzocchi Center. We also want to educate members on workers’ rights and assure them there will be a better tomorrow as long as we work together.

What roles do you serve in your local union?

I serve as vice president in my local, and I’m the health and safety chair. I just try to help wherever I’m needed.

What makes you proud to be in the union?

To know that we are the ones who make the change happen on the job. If people see others doing good things, they will follow. Getting a union was the best thing we could have ever done. In order to grow and provide for your family, you have to take the necessary steps.
