District 11, Local 6115
I’m a millwright at the Cleveland Cliffs Minorca Mine in Minnesota.
We work at a taconite mine and most of what we mine is used in automobiles.
This is my first Convention, though I’ve been to mining conferences and other conventions. I wanted to know what it entailed and what business got handled. It’s neat to see the rules of order and the resolutions, and hear speakers talk about things that matter to us.
“All In” to me means more than just Canada and the U.S. coming together. It means paper supporting mining, it means mining supporting rubber. We have to support one common goal, which is the best wages and benefits for everyone.
Unions help balance the scales and put us on an even playing field with corporations.
My mom and dad were Steelworkers. I’m also currently going through the USW leadership program and it’s such a gift to get to know all these different people. It’s so cool to have that bond.
Are you and your coworkers ready to negotiate together for bigger paychecks, stronger benefits and better lives?
