Is this your first convention? What inspired you to attend?

This is my first convention. I’m really happy to be here. This convention is even more important to me today, given the economic situation we’re living through, which is difficult on both sides of the border. We went through an 18-month labor dispute, and being united on both sides of the border is what made the difference.

What does being “All In” mean to you?

First, it’s being all in every day with my members. The phone rings—no matter the time—I answer. And the other thing is being here, like today, and making sure we pass our regulations and statutes, and ensure we’re making progress.

What makes you proud to be a Steelworker?

That we’re truly proactive in everything we do. We don’t just stay on cruise control.

What we do is, when we see we can go further, we do it—and we do it together. That’s the beauty of it. On both sides of the border, if we see something that works well in the U.S., we bring it to Canada—and vice versa. That’s what matters.
