Message from the WOS Director: “All In” on Women of Steel

The 2025 USW International Constitutional Convention was a powerful experience, not just as a union member, but as a Woman of Steel.

Thousands of USW members, staff, and invited guests from across the globe gathered April 7 – 10, in Las Vegas, Nev., to do the critical work of our union. From the moment Women of Steel (WOS) delegates arrived, our mission was clear: we came not just to witness change, but to drive it!

This year’s convention theme “All In” resonated deeply with the WOS program. For years we’ve known that real progress for workers, especially those in equity-seeking groups, takes all of us fighting together to make change.

Women from every district in our union displayed their solidarity and embodied the “All In” theme when they showed up ready to lead, speak out, and shape the future of our union.

One particularly meaningful moment was the unanimous adoption of Resolution No. 6, “Women of Steel: Know Your Power.” This resolution wasn’t just symbolic – it was a strong, collective affirmation that our union sees, supports, and values women’s leadership and contributions at every level of our organization.

As WOS delegates served on committees, spoke out at the microphones, and engaged with each other outside of the convention hall, the full force of our power and solidarity shined brightly. We’re not just participating in our union – we’re setting the tone. We’re building networks for mentorship, growing our women’s committees, and stepping up into leadership roles in ways that would make the sisters that have come before us proud.

WOS were also given the opportunity to engage with our international allies and other trade unionists committed to advancing gender equity at our WOS luncheon. We heard from female union activists leading the fight for gender equity in Indonesia, Mexico, and Ukraine. They shared their stories, struggles, and strategies, and the WOS in attendance came away with a renewed commitment and stronger connection to women workers around the world.

The WOS program has never been more vital to our union and its mission. Our voices are not only being heard, but they are being amplified.

We are “All In” on Women of Steel, and we’re just getting started.
