On February 24 2014 Brother King,(known by everyone as Duke) was inducted into the Louisiana AFL-CIO Hall of Fame.
Duke began his union career at Local 4-620 of Oil Chemical and Atomic Workers,(OCAW),almost 40 years ago. He was always active in his Local holding various committee assignments and responsibilities including getting elected as Vice President of 4-620 and later getting elected as President of the Local, a position that he held for 13 years. He served on the Advisory Boards of OCAW,PACE and the USW and on the Baton Rouge Labor Council and several other committees in his community also. He retired in 2006 as President of USW Local 620 in Gonzales La.
During his tenure he help shepherd the local through their five year lockout by BASF from 1984 until 1989. Duke always pushed for the more seasoned members to educate and foster the newer members, a point he made again when receiving the award Monday evening.
