2019 Civil and Human Rights Conference

The USW is honored to announce its 18th International Civil & Human Rights Conference. The conference will convene at 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at the Hilton Minneapolis Hotel, in Minneapolis, MN and will conclude with a banquet the evening of Wednesday, July 24.

All Civil & Human Rights Committee members are urged to participate, and there is no limit to the number of delegates a local union can send, nor is attendance restricted in any way.

CONFERENCE AGENDA

The theme of this year’s conference is “Ain’t No Stopping Us Now! Forward as One”. The plenary sessions, workshops and other activities scheduled for this conference are specifically designed to educate and energize our members and to encourage and promote activism in our locals and the communities in which we live and work. The tentative agenda includes an exciting lineup of workshops, educators and speakers, including our own International President Tom Conway, Vice President of Human Affairs Fred Redmond, AFL-CIO Executive Vice President Tefere Gebre, Valerie Castile, the Honorable Marilyn Mosby, Desmond Meade and more. Click here to download the tentative agenda, including workshops.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION & FEES

Electronic payments are available for those who use online registration. You can also register by completing the registration form and faxing it to 412-562-2495. We ask that we receive your registration no later than June 30 so we can adequately prepare for this conference.

The reduced rate for those registering by May 15, 2019 is $250 per delegate (U.S. or Canadian). The rate for registrations made after May 15 is $275. This fee includes one ticket to the Civil & Human Rights Banquet. Additional banquet tickets may be purchased at the conference for $75.00 each.

On-site registration will be available but we cannot guarantee the availability of conference materials. In addition, only local union checks or money orders will be accepted for payment of on-site registrations.

HOTEL INFORMATION

A block of rooms has been set aside at the Hilton Minneapolis, 1001 Marquette Ave, Minneapolis, MN at a rate of $169 per night, plus applicable taxes and fees. Please plan to arrive by early afternoon of Sunday, July 21, with departure on Thursday, July 25. The cutoff date to obtain the group rate is June 28, 2019. 

Valet parking is available at the rate of $40 per day. Self-parking is $14 per day/ $21 for in/out privileges.

TRAVEL

In cooperation with Professional Travel, Inc., we have made special arrangements for delegates to book air transportation to the Conference.  Airline reservations should be made by calling 877-499-1149, select option “4” (Group Meetings). Remember, Local Unions are responsible for expenses of conference attendees.
