Civil and Human Rights Conference

The United Steelworkers 17th International Civil & Human Rights Conference will convene at 5 p.m. on Monday, December 5, 2016, at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel in Birmingham, AL, and will conclude with a banquet the evening of Thursday, December 8, 2016.

This conference is intended to educate, mobilize and energize building on our conference theme, “Seize the Day-Change the Future: The Power of Union and Community.”

All Civil & Human Rights Committee members are urged to participate, and there is no limit to the number of delegates a local union can send, nor is attendance restricted in any way.

The conference registration fee is $250 U.S. or $250 Canadian. This fee includes one ticket for the reception on Monday evening and one ticket to the Civil & Human Rights Banquet. Additional banquet tickets may be purchased at the conference for $75 each.

Please send a copy of the completed registration form(s) and a check for the total payment due made payable to USW Secretary-Treasurer, USW Civil & Human Rights Department, 60 Blvd. of the Allies, 9th Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. Registration forms may also be faxed to 412-562-2495.

On-site registration will be available; however, the registration fee must be paid with a Local Union check or cash. Personal checks and credit cards will not be accepted at the conference venue.

HOTEL INFORMATION

A block of rooms has been set aside at the Sheraton Birmingham, 2101 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd., Birmingham, AL at a rate of $119 per night, plus applicable taxes and fees. Please plan to arrive by early afternoon of Monday, December 5, and depart Friday, December 9.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

In cooperation with Professional Travel, Inc., we have made special arrangements for delegates to book air transportation to the Conference. Airline reservations should be made by calling 877-499-1149, select option “4” (Group Meetings). Please identify yourself as a Steelworker attending the Civil & Human Rights Conference, and provide the code 1216BHMUSW.

Local Unions are responsible for expenses of conference attendees.
