We will be holding a Women of Steel Leadership Development Course in Altoona, Iowa on November 5-8, 2024. This is a comprehensive course aimed at helping union sisters develop communication skills, build self confidence, understand the way the union works, and learn leadership skills and strategies.
We are inviting all interested union sisters, currently active members, and members who are not currently active, but exhibit the potential and/or desire to become active to participate in a WOS Course. To ensure maximum participation we ask that you publicize this course among all the sisters in your respective local [units] and encourage their participation. Our facilitators for the course are women who have participated in the Women of Steel Facilitator Training Course mandated by the International Union.
The details for the course are as follows:
Registration: Tuesday, November 5 – 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
Course: Tuesday, November 5 through Thursday, November 7 – 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
(one hour for lunch – lunch will be provided each day)
Friday, November 8 – 9:00 a.m. to noon (box lunch to go will be provided)

A block of sleeping rooms has been reserved at a rate of $129.00 per night plus tax. You will be responsible for making your own room reservations.
To receive the special room rate, please ask for the “USW1124” room block. The cut-off date for reservations is October 6, 2024. Below is the information for the hotel:

For the most effective training sessions, we like the total number of participants to be between 18 and 24 and be represented by at least four local unions or units. The class will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
There will be a $75 registration fee for this course. The registration form should be completed by each participant and returned along with registration fee no later than October 6, 2024 to Michele Fredrickson, United Steelworkers, 415 Jones Street, Eveleth, MN 55734. As is customary, it will be the responsibility of the local union to pay any lost time and/or expenses.
