District 9 SOARing to New Heights

Labor activism does not cease when you retire. The Steelworker Organization of Active Retirees (SOAR) connects active Steelworkers with USW retirees so they can work together on our common problems.

District 9 is leading the way in organizing new SOAR chapters. Our newest chapter is located in Rock Hill, South Carolina. They were presented their SOAR Charter on May 21, 2016 in Rock Hill, SC.

USW District 9 Director Daniel Flippo extends a special thank you to Local Union 9-1924 President Michael Godfrey, Local Union 9-925 President Cardero Gilliam and their local union membership for the dedication and support in establishing this new chapter of active retirees.

“It is just another example of the solidarity in our great union,” said District 9 Director Daniel Flippo, “and the commitment and dedication of our members, even into retirement. The leadership and activism in District 9 is something we can and should all be proud of.”
