USW 309 Membership Update 4/17/2025

Brothers and Sisters,

Over the past 2 days the company has been doing a safety intervention sessions with everyone in both plants. The main point that they’re trying to drive home in these sessions is that we can stop and slow down. This is coming from the top levels of this management group, and they’re committed that they’ll be no repercussions for stopping for safety issues. If you have a foreman pushing you to do something that you feel isn’t safe, please stop and get in touch with someone!

Make sure that we are getting the SWIs for our jobs and tasks that we are being asked to do. If they don’t exist, then we need to be doing the pre-jobs and making sure that the proper people are involved so that a SWI can be written for the next time that the job is to be done.

Today, 4/17/2025, there’s a posting going up for Top Rate MCS bids. It will be coming down next week on 4/23/2025 at 8am. Please be sure that you have your transfers in if you have passed all sections of the MCS Top Rate test and are wanting to transfer.

We are supposed to be meeting with the Company next week on head count and upcoming moves that should be taking place. Ken Ross said in one of the early meetings today in the South Plant that Chad had committed to the Company addressing the operations wide staffing issues that are causing the excessive work hours and schedules. Hopefully, they’ll be some solutions come from these meetings that are planned for next week.

The next round of 5th Steps are scheduled for 5/7/2025. If you have grievances that have been heard in the 1st Step, please get them to your department chair so that they can get them moving through the process.

We are in the process of selecting a new arbitrator since we let the last one that we had go. Soon as this process is complete will set some dates for the next round of arbitration.

Rain or shine the drawing for the raffle will be done in the 3:30pm meeting on May 8th. So, if you’re wanting to get tickets or purchase any additional tickets please get in touch with Ronnie Amos at 865-363-4440.
