USW 309 Membership Update 6/13/25
Brothers and Sisters,
The last round of testing for the CDP-E Prequalification test on June 11, 2025, was interrupted by a fire drill. A makeup test for those affected will be held on June 18, 2025, at 9:00 AM or 3:30 PM. The company will be contacting you to confirm your preferred time. This adjustment also pushes the class start date back an additional week to June 23, 2025.
The bargaining committee—along with Jennifer Myers and Mike Bivens—will be heading to Pittsburgh on July 21-23, 2025, for a union-only pre-bargaining meeting with the other three locals and international representatives. We will be putting together a survey for everyone to fill out regarding next year’s contract negotiations. We hope to distribute it within the next couple of weeks.
The next Top Table Labor/Management meeting is scheduled for October 6-8, 2025. This is far off, and these dates are subject to change.
The USW International election will be held on November 25, 2025, with polls open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The nomination meeting for this election will take place on September 12, 2025, at 12:00 PM, 3:30 PM, and 7:00 PM.
I want to take a moment to review where post-2020 hires can find information related to their pensions and healthcare funds. Pension information is on page 190, and healthcare fund details are on page 171. Everyone working here has a pension plan in one form or another. Please take some time to review these plans, and if you have any questions, feel free to reach out.
Testing for the next hiring class started today and will continue for the next two Fridays. The company’s goal is for this entire class of new hires to come from employee referrals—there have been 66 referrals so far. If you referred someone, have them double-check their junk mail to ensure they haven’t missed an invitation.
Amalgamated Report:
- BEFESA: Josh Coker was involved in a serious auto accident. For now, Jason Parker will be taking over as Chief Steward for 309-2.
- Brookfield: Bargaining is scheduled to begin in August, and we have started working on the framework for our proposals and desired changes.
After the Union meeting on June 12th, 2025, we had the drawing for pen sales and the winners are:
$500- Larry Swiger
$1500- Travis Murphy
$3000- Mary Rublaitus
The checks will be available during regular business hours of the Hall starting June 17th, 2025.
