Our late International President Tom Conway understood as well as anyone that our strength as a union has always come from our numbers and our willingness to stand together across age, race, geographic region and industry.

As more workers join our movement and our union, we increase power at our bargaining tables and strengthen our communities by having more workers with the protections of a union contract.

That’s why our union is putting extra emphasis on organizing as we look to the future, an effort that we’ve named after President Conway.

President Conway’s Organizing Initiative (PCOI) involves bringing on a number of rank-and-file USW members to come out on union leave to serve as organizers, providing them with training and deploying them strategically.

This work will not be easy. But it is vital to protect both union and non-union workers from employers who will never stop trying to pit us against each other to increase their own profits.
