monroe4On February 7, 2015, hundreds of USW members from Local 10-448, Local 10-234, Local 10-1, Local 12698 and Local 404U rallied in support of the 3,800 USW Oil Workers from facilities who are on strike. The National Day of Action for “Safe Refineries, Secure Jobs and Healthy Communities at the Monroe Energy Plant located in Trainer, PA was part of a nation- wide day of solidarity in support of our negation team and policy committee.

This is the largest national oil work stoppage in 35 years. The unfair labor practice strike is about unsafe staffing levels, dangerous conditions the industry continues to ignore; the daily occurrences of fires, emissions, leaks and explosions that threaten workers and members of the community.

Local Union President, Dennis Stephano, Local 10-234, told the crowd, “We are here supporting our members at nine other facilities and we will continue to stand in solidarity with our sisters and brothers.” He thanked the union members and their families for participating in a peaceful demonstration at the Monroe Energy Plant.

USW District 10 Director Bobby “Mac” McAuliffe, Assistant to the Director, Lew “Spike” Dopson, Staff Representative Carl Jones and George Piasecki, Rapid Response Coordinator also participated at the event.

Bobby Mac told the union members, “On this National Day of Action, thousands of union members and their families from California, Texas, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and all across this great nation are united in solidarity. There is a tremendous amount of strength and solidarity from all of our members and we need to continue to show the oil industry that we will fight one day longer!”
