Members of the District 7 United Steelworkers SOAR chapter joined members of the United Autoworkers, Coalition for Better Trade and many others at the Munster Town Hall in Indiana on Sept. 20 to protest the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal. The group passed out the USW’s Rapid Response fact sheet explaining all of the problems with the TPP and engaged community members attending the Munster town hall meeting. Protesters explained why the TPP is so harmful. The activists then went into the council meeting where Terry Steagall, of USW Local 1010 and SOAR, and Carlos Luna, president of USW local 2003, explained the TPP’s serious threats to the U.S. economy and urged Council to pass a resolution asking Congress to defeat it. Council said it would consider the request. The activists promised to return to pressure council to act.
