On Monday, the U.S. sold off the last of its GM stock. United Steelworkers International President Leo Gerard and third-term Mayor of Lansing, Michigan Virg Bernaro discuss with MSNBC’s Ed Schultz how the 2009 auto bailout by President Obama has proved to have had an effective result on the American economy while saving millions of American jobs.
Schultz pointed out all the negative comments and statements made by Republicans at that time, including Mitt Romney’s op-ed, “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt.”
“I never heard these guys crying, I never heard these guys complaining when we bailed out Wall Street,” said Gerard, “but they cried and complained when we were saving the auto industry.”
They discussed the trade imbalance with China and the way China is trying to flood America with Chinese auto parts.
“Hats off to Leo Gerard and the Steelworkers for fighting those cheaters,” said Bernaro.
