USW Members Make Their Voices Heard! House Passes Protect America’s Workforce Act

Since April, USW Members and our labor allies have been calling and emailing their Representatives to demand a vote on H.R. 2550, the Protect America’s Workforce Act (PAWA), which would overturn a presidential executive order that stripped collective bargaining rights from roughly one million federal workers. Our consistent pressure helped push Congress to act. Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 2550 by a strong bipartisan vote of 231 to 195 (usw.to/5j7).

As a reminder, for months, House leadership had blocked any action regarding PAWA. But labor-friendly lawmakers used a discharge petition, a rare tool that forces a vote when leadership refuses to schedule one. In November, the discharge petition reached the 218-signature threshold, which cleared the way for this week’s victory.

A full-House vote on PAWA sends a clear message: attempts to weaken or strip collective bargaining rights will be met with strong, united resistance.

So, What’s Next?

The bill now moves to the Senate, where there is already strong bipartisan support. We’ll continue fighting to finish what we started. But today, we celebrate, because this win belongs to you.
