Next Gen members from USW Locals 1000 and 1034 Take Part in a "Black Friday" Protest

Submitted by Brigitte Womer

On November 28, "Next Gen" members from USW Locals 1000 and 1034 protested at Walmart in Painted Post, NY to support the #walmartstrikers campaign being held nationally.

Wearing signs of support for the workers grabbed the attention of both employees and shoppers. Occasionally, shoppers would stop them and ask to read their signs. One Walmart employee took time to take photos of their supporters.

As they attempted to speak with one manager, he asked if they could wait until he placed a call on the radio. Shortly after, four additional store managers joined them to hear what the Steelworkers had to say. When they offered to give the managers their signs of support, they took offence and one manager aggressively told the group to leave and escorted them out of the store.
