On Saturday, January 31, a group of people from United Steelworker Local 10-00086 Women of Steel Committee, led by Chairperson Kisha Byrd, volunteered to feed over 100 people and also reorganize the stock the pantry at Manna on Main in Lansdale, PA. Joining the group for the day was District 10 Civil and Human Rights Coordinator Daryl Bailey.
This project was originally started a few years ago by the Civil and Human Rights Committee of Local 10-00086 led by Chairperson Gary Holland.
When the day came to an end and after all work was done, the group reflected on the day.
“We felt very humbled and grateful that we are members of a union that has helped to get us good wages, medical insurance and many other things that some do not have,” said Byrd. “Everyone should try doing something like this because sometimes we take for granted the things we receive because we are in a good union like the Steelworkers.”
This project is just one of so many USW’s amazing members do every day to give back to our communities. If you or your local are doing good things in your community, we want to hear about them.
