USW Local 13-228 Women of Steel in Beaumont, TX., hosted a Christmas fundraiser to help some families in the community to make their holiday a joyous one. They are delighted to report that their fundraiser was very successful and they were able to adopt 7 families from Hamshire, Port Arthur, Fannett, Port Neches, Bridge City, Orange and Starks.
Each family was provided a complete Christmas dinner and extra food to get them through the holiday break. There were 10 bicycles given to the children who needed them and gifts for a total of 19 children including everything from shoes, clothes, bath sets, toys and sports equipment. The local SOAR chapter of retirees helped to deliver all the food and gifts before the children got out for their holiday break, just in case they needed Santa’s approval.
The Women of Steel would like to thank everyone who donated to this endeavor, who helped wrap all the gifts and deliver them. They feel honored to be able to assist our community during times of great need.
This project is just one of so many USW's amazing members do every day to give back to our communities. If you or your local are doing good things in your community, we want to hear about them.
