State Conference to Showcase Bethlehem’s Industrial Past

The Pennsylvania Labor History Society and Steelworkers’ Archives conference will be held in Bethlehem for the first time next week. Former Steelworker and local history buff Ron Ennis will deliver one of several free lectures during the Sept. 16-17 conference.

Ennis has written about Bethlehem Steel‘s 1910 labor strike over the length of the workday, and the role played in it by Samuel Gompers, one of America’s leading union organizers in the early 20th century. Ennis, a Weisenberg Township resident who is active with the Lehigh Valley Labor Council, also spearheaded efforts to get a historic marker on the South Side commemorating a steelworker killed during the 1910 strike … more
