USW, Los Mineros Remember Pasta de Conchos Tragedy

USW members joined members of the National Union of Mine, Metal, Steel and Allied Workers of the Mexican Republic (Los Mineros) yesterday for a rally marking the 10th anniversary of an explosion at the Grupo Mexico mine at Pasta de Conchos in the Mexican state of Coahuila that killed 65 miners.

The bodies of 63 of the workers killed in the Feb. 19, 2006, tragedy remain trapped underground.

USW members also joined Los Mineros members today in Mexico City for a march to demand recovery of the bodies, compensation for the families of the victims, and prosecution of the responsible company and government officials.

The USW and Los Mineros have maintained a strategic alliance since 2005.
