Bernie Hall

Director District 10

Bernie Hall is the newly elected District 10 Director.

Hall was hired at Zinc Corp. of America in 2000, joining USW Local 8183 in Bridgewater, Pa. A fourth-generation Steelworker whose family has a long tradition of union activism, Hall quickly followed in their footsteps, serving first as unit president and then president of his amalgamated local.

While he served as Local 8183 president, the local was recognized at the International Convention for the outstanding performance of its Rapid Response program and received the “Spirit of the Fight” Award.

Hall also served as District 10’s first Next Generation Coordinator, and in 2011, he represented the USW at the AFL-CIO’s Young Workers Summit in Minnesota. He is now the first ‘Next Gen’ alumnus to serve as Director.

In 2011, Hall became one of the youngest ever Staff Representatives in the District. Since then, Hall has bargained in nearly every sector of the union, including negotiations with employers such as U.S. Steel, BASF, International Paper, PCA, Allegheny Technologies, Nova Chemicals, Robert Morris University and more.

From 2015 to 2020, Hall also served as the District 10 Organizing Coordinator, and in 2016, then-International President Leo W. Gerard asked him to help represent the USW as part of a small delegation that participated in a White House summit on union organizing.

Hall currently sits on the national Institute for Career Development advisory board and serves as a trustee to three of the Pennsylvania Heavy and Highway Construction benefits funds. He is a graduate of the Community College of Allegheny County labor management studies program and a board member for the Beaver County United Way.

The job Hall is proudest of is raising his two daughters, Katey and Kassidy.
