Last year, Doosan Bobcat announced plans to build and open a new factory in Monterrey, Mexico, and since then, the USW has sought to engage management over how this proposed facility could impact existing union-represented facilities in Gwinner, Bismarck and Rogers.
Finally, a committee that includes USW leaders from each of the Bobcat locations will meet with Bobcat North America President Michael Ballweber on Friday, January 26, 2024, to discuss the company’s investment in Mexico and determine the best strategy to keep our U.S. facilities thriving.
At different times, management has indicated that it hopes to increase capacity by moving M- series production to Mexico and implied that the company cannot find enough workers in the United States.
The USW has submitted a significant information request to prepare for bargaining over the effects of any changes management plans to make.
If Bobcat needs more employees, the USW can work with management and community leaders to implement programs that will attract and retain qualified workers. Our elected officials and government agencies are resourceful and understand the importance of keeping good, union jobs in our region.
After all, generations of union-represented workers proudly built Bobcat into an iconic American company by maintaining high standards and manufacturing the best quality equipment, and we will not allow the company to dismantle it without a fight.
Please stay focused on working safely, and the USW will provide updates as the process unfolds.
