Unions Seek Negotiations, ASARCO Refuses
As you know, our unions have been trying to engage ASARCO management in meaningful negotiations for a new Basic Labor Agreement (BLA) for many months.
While the trial against ASARCO’s unfair labor practices continues before an administrative law judge and the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) investigates our additional charges, on June 28 and 29, we asked management for dates to bargain a new BLA.
The company instead offered to meet on July 13, for limited scope negotiations to discuss only drug policy.
Our unions responded by again demanding to bargain over the terms of the entire BLA, specifying that the membership seeks substantial wage increases. We await a response from ASARCO.
In the meantime, we have now distributed 5,000 “No Spy Cameras” hardhat stickers to local unions and members to express outrage over ASARCO’s intrusive, privacy-violating and potentially voyeuristic actions that management has undertaken under the guise of “fatigue monitoring.”
We will share updates and information as our fight for fairness and justice at ASARCO continues.
