United Steelworkers Local 310 has taken the opportunity to support various causes this holiday season in our community of Des Moines, IA.
Our Women of Steel committee held gate collections in November to raise money to adopt families for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Through the generosity of our Local’s brothers and sisters, about $1000 was collected! For the third year, the Women of Steel committee provided Thanksgiving meals for families from Hawthorn Hill, an emergency shelter for families with children. For Christmas, we have adopted a family from the Boys and Girls Club of Central Iowa and will ensure they have gifts under their tree.
Also this year, Local 310 is proud to be a Toys-for-Tots drop off site. New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off through December 17. In addition, on December 9th and 10th, the Local will host a toy drop-off drive through. This is an opportunity for folks to drive through and drop off their donations without even having to get out of their cars. We will have people on hand in the parking lot to collect the donations.
USW Local 310 members enjoy the opportunity to help the less fortunate in our community!
This project is just one of so many USW's amazing members do every day to give back to our communities. If you or your local are doing good things in your community, we want to hear about them. Let us know and share video and photos at www.usw.org/uswcares and use the #USWCares hashtag when you post your stories on social media. Don't forget to shout out @Steelworkers!
